It’s that time of year for the Huntsville Ballet Company to get everyone in the spirit for the holidays. This year, along with the traditional performances of The Nutcracker, the Ballet will be performing “The Nutty Nutcracker” to close this season’s shows. We’ve interviewed the guest star, Huntsville’s very own Lily Flagg, to give a sneak peek into what this fun finale has to offer.
A: Well, I’m in it! *giggles. But, most importantly, it is more of a spoof on the traditional Nutcracker. The talented dancers are still performing their well-practiced technique, there are just some silly surprises along the way! This performance gives the dancers an opportunity to poke fun at the formality of the traditional show after all of their hard work.
A: I can’t give them away! They will have to come see for themselves! But…all I will say is, look out for some 70’s throwback tunes, favorite holiday songs, and some unexpected characters to mix it up.
A: I’m taking on the role of the little lost lamb, a “babe lost in the woods” if you will. The Big Bad Wolf is after me in my lonely, vulnerable state. I’m searching for the Nutcracker to protect me.
A: Honey, I’ve been dancing forever! Back in 1892, a ball was held in my honor after being named a prize-winning producer of dairy. I buttered up my guests and we danced from sun down to sun up! I’ve also danced in the Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll for over 20 years. You could say I’ve had plenty of practice!
A: My fans can see me Sunday, December 11th at 5:00 p.m. in the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall of the Von Braun Center!
The Nutty Nutcracker tickets are available online, at the studio, and during the regular performances in the lobby and at the door. General Admission is $12. Proceeds of The Nutty Nutcracker go to the support of Huntsville Ballet Company’s mission to use the power of dance to inspire and educate others in classical ballet, as well as provide community outreach.
Please attend one of the traditional shows December 9th, 10th, and 11th! Tickets are still available for all performances through Ticketmaster and the VBC box office.
