Huntsville is lucky to be home to our exceptional Botanical Garden, built through almost 30 years of work from dedicated staffers, volunteers, and the support of local businesses and organizations. Through the years, the Garden has outgrown its original guest center. March 10th, the Garden will open its NEW Guest Center, currently under construction, but I got an advanced sneak peek inside!
Combining elements of traditional Southern architecture with modern touches, the new Center oozes charm and welcomes visitors right at the main entrance. Beautifully situated, the new building offers lovely views out all the windows and sits gracefully above the Garden.
Visitors will now park in the Garden’s newest environmentally sound parking lot (built in 2012) before walking into a two-story entry hall lined with a gallery in the mezzanine featuring local artists. The check-in desk ushers visitors out onto a large veranda overlooking the newly renovated “Lake Lonnie” duck pond and into the Garden.
The new Center also offers multiple new event spaces, Table in the Garden, a sustainable operated restaurant that serves food from its own urban kitchen garden, and an expanded gift shop.
With spring popping up in North Alabama, there’s never been a better time to visit our Botanical Garden and be one of the first visitors to see the Garden’s newest expansion. Mark your calendars – a ribbon cutting is planned for Friday, March 31, 2017 and grand opening festivities will take place during the month of April 2017.
