Love notes from iHeartHsv bloggers to the Rocket City

Last year, at the tail end of the 2015 #iHeartHsv campaign, we launched this blog – iHeartHsv.com. For one year now, we’ve worked with local writers to tell Huntsville and Madison County stories. Everything from why we’re called the Rocket City, to pet-friendly spots, local craft beer write-ups, a whole bunch of Little Known Facts and much, much more.

We like to think of ourselves as your resource – whether you’re a visitor who has never been to Huntsville or you’re a local who is looking for a new perspective and different experiences in their hometown. We’ve got you covered.

More than 10 bloggers work year round to help you explore the Rocket City. And with at least one new blog post per week, we hope we’ve done a good job of covering the areas that interest you most. (If we haven’t covered a topic that you’d like to learn more about, let us know in the comment section below.)

We thought a great way to celebrate the one year anniversary of this blog, our bloggers and the 2016 #iHeartHsv social media campaign (February 1 – 14, 2016) was to hear directly from the folks who make this blog great – our bloggers. So, we asked them some questions  about Rocket City, USA and this blog.

We asked them 1) What do you ‘heart’ most about Huntsville/Madison County? 2) Why should visitors and locals read iHeartHsv.com regularly? &  3) What, if anything, is constantly surprising you about the Rocket City area?

Here’s what they had to say – their ‘love notes’ to the Rocket City, if you will.

(Q) What do you ♥ most about Huntsville/Madison County?

(A) I love the fact that Huntsville is a true multi-cultural town. Our local industry has attracted people form all areas and all walks of life, and that’s represented well in local arts, entertainment, and culture. It’s also very cool that Huntsville also has a very Southern and tech-rich history to be proud of.

(Q) What do you ♥ most about Huntsville/Madison County?

(A) I love that Huntsville is a city without limits. Rocket scientist Wernher von Braun once said, ‘I have learned to use the word ‘impossible’ with the greatest caution,’ and when the residents of a city build a rocket to take people to the moon, it gets into their bloodstream.  We have a tradition of transformation — with advances from pioneering plumbing two centuries ago to deciphering DNA today — and that’s as true in our small steps as it is our giant leaps.

(Q) Why should visitors and locals read iHeartHsv.com regularly?

(A) Huntsville’s a city of constant changes and hidden secrets, and even as a native, I frequently discover on iHeartHsv.com new things I hadn’t heard about yet, or older treasures I’d somehow missed.

(Q) What, if anything, is constantly surprising you about the Rocket City area?

(A) It’s amazing to me how, as Huntsville continues to become a bigger city, it’s also becoming perhaps even more of a small town. With growth comes new activities and opportunities, and with those new interest communities that reveal just how many ways people are connected. For a visitor, that means you’re getting more and more of the amenities of a growing city, while keeping the intimate, small-town friendliness.

I also love how supportive we are of local businesses. We’ve got so many quality businesses here, and it’s great that they’re getting the recognition they deserve.

(A)Reading iHeartHsv.com regularly will keep you up to date with all the things that are going on in Huntsville so you won’t miss any of the events happening. Plus, the insider knowledge of people who live, work, and research here is super helpful.

(Q) What, if anything, is constantly surprising you about the Rocket City area?

(A)I’m always surprised at how much our craft beer scene has grown! I love hearing that people come from out of town to check out our breweries, and that any beer lover locally can name their top five local brews!

(Q) What do you ♥ most about Huntsville/Madison County?

(A) This is an impossible question to answer as there are many many things to love about Huntsville. I love that the people of Huntsville have a lot of passion and drive. When Alabama was changing the brewing and beer laws Huntsville was right in the fray. Companies such as HudsonAlpha have done amazing things for the city as well as Mind Gear Labs, Lowe Mill, Greene Street Market, etc. They are all working to create something new and innovative without hesitation.

(Q) Why should visitors and locals read iHeartHsv.com regularly?

(A) People should read iHeartHsv.com to get a unique, yet authentic view of the city. As a blogger,I work hard to give both visitors and residents an inside view of Huntsville that they my have missed otherwise. I’ve lived in Huntsville for over a decade and I have to say reading all of your posts has completely expanded my knowledge of a city I thought I knew very well. I also feel like I get the inside scoop of what there is to experience.

(Q) What, if anything, is constantly surprising you about the Rocket City area?
(A) I am always amazed at how multicultural Huntsville is. You don’t always think of Alabama as being very diverse but Huntsville is like the United Nations. In addition to having a French husband (whom I met in Huntsville) I have friends from Brazil, Mexico, Turkey, Iran, Portugal, India, The Netherlands, etc etc that I met in this small, tech city. It’s really refreshing and educational.
