[VLOG]Huntsville Holiday Events 2015: Katie’s Picks

Hey everyone, and happy holidays! Katie here with a very festive vlog today to help get us enjoy the many fun Huntsville holiday events happening this year!

Galaxy of Lights

One of my favorite family traditions is taking a trip to the Galaxy of Lights at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens. This fantastical light display features installments like Santa in his sleigh, a field of dinosaurs, and my personal favorite- the icicle forest. My family and I walked through it earlier this year, but the driving nights are just as nice! You get to listen to your favorite Christmas songs as you cruise past nursery rhymes and scenes from the season. The Galaxy of Lights is open until January 2, 2016.

Santa’s Village

Next, I met up with some family friends at Santa’s Village, located at Alabama Constitution Village. There are so many things to enjoy at one of Huntsville’s most historic locations. When you first walk through the gates, you are immediately greeted by some of Santa’s reindeer! You can decorate some cookies in Mrs. Claus’s kitchen, and then gather round the fireplace to hear her read you a story. The little ones can wander around the Cicle Maze and then mail a letter off to Santa. Finally, you can meet the Big Man himself and snap a photo! Santa’s Village is open until December 23, 2015.

Tinsel Trail

It’s impossible to miss this year’s gorgeous Tinsel Trail in Big Spring Park. The pond is illuminated by about 250 live, decorated trees this year. Each tree is decorated by a different person or group, so it’s always fun to see how many creative people call Huntsville their home! This event is free, and it runs until January 2, 2016. While you’re in the area, make sure you check out the ice skating rink set up by the Huntsville Museum of Art! You can skate until January 4, 2016.

Shopping at Parkway Place Mall

It’s getting down to the last few days for shopping for gifts, so mom and I decided to go someplace where we could cross a lot of things off our list- Parkway Place Mall. With around 100 stores, you’re sure to find something for everyone. We managed to get a gift for my grandmother, my sister, my mom’s work friends, and (while she wasn’t looking) my mom!

This is just a handful of the fun activities going on in the Huntsville area this month. Looking for a great list of Huntsville/Madison County houses to admire the lights? Check out this list from Our Valley Events. Want recommendations on what to with the kiddos this holiday season in Huntsville? Our friends at Rocket City Mom have you covered, too!  The Huntsville/Madison County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau has an amazing coupon on their website that gives you discounts on Santa’s Village, Skating in the Park, Candlelight Christmas, and more! Make sure you check out the savings right HERE.
Thanks for watching, and have a wonderful holiday!

Katie Wright is a southerner, an explorer, a student, and an old lady at heart. She was born and raised in the south, but abandoned her homeland during her early twenties for the allure of places such as New Zealand and Northern England. After completing her studies, she returned to the sweet sunny south and is now an archaeologist by day and a blogger/vlogger by night. Other hobbies include baking, crocheting, researching local history (like I said… old lady), and putting things in her online shopping cart and then never buying them.
